Does dietary fibre lower blood or plasma metal levels?

An inulin crossover trial in peritoneal dialysis reported a plasma arsenic fall of 1.03 µg/L, with no significant change in other elements or in daily removal. A fibre-blend trial in women with recurrent spontaneous abortion reported a larger blood-lead fall than conventional care alone. Both are small, both use surrogate blood levels, and both are in special populations.

Studies

  • Li 2024: crossover, maltodextrin placebo, 44 randomized, 29 completed, peritoneal dialysis. Plasma arsenic fell 1.03 µg/L (95% CI -1.74 to -0.33) from 3.54 µg/L. PMID 38093628.
  • Tian 2023: 48 versus 22 women, 8 weeks, no placebo. Blood lead reduction 40.50 ± 54.28 versus 13.35 ± 36.81 µg/L (P=0.037). PMID 37420277.

What's safe to buy

The Heavy Metal Tested and Certified public register listed no licensees on 15 October 2026. That page reported 0 certified brands and 0 certified products, and it stated that no brand has completed the three-lot baseline. A specimen layout on the register is an illustration, not a licensee. This page does not name or rank any brand.

The program states that certification is a measurement of a product against a published limit, not a statement that the product is safe. If a licensee is later listed for this category, it will be on the register.
